AVCP ABE Program partners with (KUC) the UAF Kuskokwim Campus-Bethel Regional ABE Program to offer basic academic skill building in math, reading, and writing for the purpose of earning a GED, getting or retaining employment, or entering post-secondary education or training.
All GED students need to register with both AVCP and KUC to enroll in the ABE program.
The Test of Adult Basic Education or the TABE test is requirement for all GED students and students wanting to enter into training programs (AVTEC, Career Academy, etc.)
Pre-tests and post-tests using the TABE are also required for all GED/ABE students.
Bethel and several villages have ABE programs.
AVCP now offers ABE programs in the following villages:
Akiachuk, Akiak, Alakanuk, Hooper Bay, Kasigluk, Kipnuk, Kotlik, Kwethluk, Marshall, Napakiak, Nunapitchuk, Quinhagak, Russian Mission, Toksook Bay, Tuluksak, and Tundra Center in Bethel.
An individualized study plan is developed for each student based on their assessment tests and strengths.
Students work to prepare for the 5 GED tests: Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science, and Math.
If an ABE Program is not offered in your village, the students can work with AVCP and KUC to register, develop a study plan, and work towards a GED via phone, fax, and mail.
